What you would get for a tender
Both tenders below are real Ontario roofing notices on CanadaBuys. Both have closed and are used only as examples. The contractor profile is a made-up example, not a client.
Eight-person commercial flat-roof contractor in eastern Ontario. Does modified bitumen and EPDM. Jobs up to about $400k. Has WSIB clearance and liability insurance. Not on any school board pre-qualified list.
Tender 1: Pakenham Public School, roof replacement
Pass| Issued by | Upper Canada District School Board |
| Solicitation | BT-26-062 · closed June 11, 2026 |
| Work | About 13,250 sq ft, two-ply modified bitumen, plus drains, flashings, insulation, parapets and reinstalling rooftop equipment |
| Schedule | Start about June 29, substantial completion by August 26, 2026 |
| Value | Not stated in the notice |
Why pass
- Pre-qualified bidders only. The notice invites tenders from pre-qualified eligible bidders. A contractor not on the list cannot bid. This is the deciding factor.
- The scope fits the contractor well, so the right move is to get on the board's pre-qualified list for next time.
- The schedule is tight: about eight weeks from start to substantial completion, all in the summer break.
What we could not see: evaluation scoring, bonding and insurance requirements. They sit in the full documents on the board's bidding portal.
Tender 2: Cornwall Public Library, new roofing system
Bid, if conditions are met| Issued by | City of Cornwall |
| Solicitation | BT-26-T24 · closed June 26, 2026 |
| Work | Remove the existing roof and install a new system on about 5,700 sq ft, built to Tremco drawings and specifications |
| Process | Open bidding |
| Value | Not stated in the notice |
Why bid
- Open to any qualified bidder, and the size suits a small commercial roofer.
- The scope is straightforward: full tear-off and replacement on a single building.
What could sink the bid
- Mandatory site visit on May 28, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. Firms that miss it, arrive late, or leave early are rejected. A weekly alert that arrives after this date makes the tender a pass. Timing is the first thing we check.
- Specified Tremco system. Check whether the specification requires a Tremco-approved applicator or warranty. If you are not approved, that may rule you out or raise your price.
- Unknown from the notice: bonding, insurance limits, scoring. Read these in the full documents before pricing.

What this sample shows, and doesn't
- Built from the public CanadaBuys notices only. The full tender documents sit on separate bidding portals that may require an account. In real use, you would send us the documents, or we would pull them with your account, so the call and draft use the real scoring and requirements.
- It does not guarantee a win. A person on your team reviews every draft, and you submit it yourself.
